Guide to using PPP with INOW service.

Introduction

INOW provides IP access to the Internet using the PPP (Point to Point) protocol. IP access allows users to connect their computer or network directly to the Internet. Instead of using INOW's computers through a terminal emulation program, users can run Internet software directly on their computers.

An IP connection allows you to use graphical programs such as Mosaic or Netscape to take advantage of the Internet. Mosaic and Netscape are information browsers that run over an Internet IP connection. They allow users to search for information, files, graphics and sounds on the Internet easily and conveniently through a point and click interface.

An IP connection will also allow you to run several differnet Internet programs simultaneously. For example, while you are running a Mosaic search for information on the latest Supreme Court decision you could also be sending an E-Mail message to your client about today's meeting.

To use PPP, you will need appropriate IP software and Internet application software. These software packages are available as freeware and shareware. There are also many packages available commercially.

Contact our offices at 408-946-6895 to register networks for IP service. This option will allow multiple computers to connect to the Internet via a single IP connection.

Getting Started

  1. Everyone should read Important INOW policies.
  2. If you are new to IP read the appropriate Getting Started section:
  3. If you do not have PPP service, see joining.
  4. To find useful software and scripts, see INOW FTP Archive.
