We are still executing on our contingency plans to move all customers (including yours) who had Northpoint lines to either Rhythms, Covad or New Edge. This process includes emailing you a list of your customers affected by the closure of Northpoint, providing you with the appropriate letter from us to send to your customers explaining the re-provisioning of their line, and the process we will be going through. Those communications will go out shortly to you. While we were in this process we have just been notified that the shutdown of the Northpoint network is now very imminent despite our continued efforts. ----------------------------------------------------------

Dear Customer, As we've previously informed you, the shutdown of NorthPoint Networks is imminent. While several Public Utility Commissions are fighting on our behalf to defer this shutdown, it now appears that the Regional Bell Operating Companies (RBOCs) and other providers of network services to NorthPoint are going to force a shutdown of NorthPoint's network as early as today. We regret having to report this unfortunate news, and, as we hope you are aware, MegaPath is doing everything in its power to prevent this from happening. In the event that this does occur, your DSL line will most likely go down over the next 24 hours. For additional details, please check our website at www.megapath.net/northpointupdate for the most up-to-date news on this situation. Our contingency planning continues, and you either have received or will receive notification regarding the status of your DSL service and other options from your MegaPath Partner or Reseller shortly.

Wherever possible we have already ordered DSL service for you from another provider. You will receive an email from us, or your MegaPath Partner or Reseller, asking you to either confirm or decline that you want this replacement service. If you elect to continue with us, we expect that your replacement DSL service will be available in about 30 days on average.

We regret this situation and want to assure you MegaPath has been proactive in its efforts to minimize the disruption for our valued customers whose businesses rely on DSL connectivity.

    Sincerely,

    MegaPath Networks

  • 10.9.97 - Mail Server
In the last few days, we have had some problems with the mail server. This will attempt to explain what happened, why it happened, and what INOW is doing to minimize and prevent a similar situation from happening in the future.

First, we had multiple drives go down on the raid system, and after spending most of the day getting the system up (the tape restore alone takes over 6 hours), the 2 new drives failed within 24 hours. We replaced them with 2 different drives, and the server seems to be running OK now. We have decided to build another system to act as a hot-spare backup. This is an update on the 56K modem upgrade process and the K56flex interoperability testing. We will keep you posted on any developments. Following is the update we received from Livingston regarding the upgrade:

Limited production quantities of 56K modem boards are already in production, and we are continuing to work with Lucent and Rockwell to address the remaining K56flex interoperability issues. We will continue to keep you up to date as we approach final production code in the coming weeks.

As we begin the 56K modem beta testing and approach the final software release, we will provide all of our customers the opportunity to participate in field testing the interoperability of the new K56flex modems. In early July we will provide you (and your customers) with 1-800 access to a K56flex-ready PortMaster 3 located in our test lab. Your active participation in compatibility testing in these final stages before release will help insure Livingston provides you and your customers with the most reliable 56K modem platform possible.

We will ship modem boards to customers as they become available. Since we will be upgrading many thousands of modem boards, some customers will receive initial modem shipments that upgrade some but not all PM3s in their possession. We are aiming for an equitable distribution of upgrades with all modems being upgraded within 90 days of shipping the first modem upgrade.
